LOGAN SQUARE — More than twenty Logan Square bars and restaurants are now serving up a beer that will help preserve the neighborhood.
For the second straight year, Land and Sea Dept. and Revolution Brewery have teamed up on a limited-edition beer called Monument, in honor of the Illinois Centennial Monument at the center of the neighborhood and its Eagle.
The draft-only beer is available while supplies last and $1 from the sale of each pour will be donated to Logan Square Preservation.
The beer, an extra pale American wheat ale, helped the neighborhood preservation group fund a laser scan and inspection of the 98-year-old monument last year.
Logan Square Preservation has also worked on replanting trees along the boulevards of the neighborhood, negotiated the design and size of the Mega Mall redevelopment and kept the area around the monument cleared of snow this year, according to Andrew Schneider, the president of the group.
"We don't just get up and argue for preservation," he said.
Members of Logan Square Preservation will be hosting a meet-and-great at the Off Site Bar at Longman & Eagle from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday where Monument will be available all day for $5 rather than the usual $6.
The beer is described as a highly drinkable refreshing ale with a 5.5% ABV and was brewed with Apollo and Amarillo hops and the dry-hopped with Centennial and Amarillo hops.
