UPTOWN — This weekend, animal lovers can walk with their pup (or run without) along Montrose Harbor to help keep puppies alive in Chicago.

The 16th annual PAWS Chicago 5K Walk Run, which supports a PAWS mission to build a "No Kill City," will be held Sunday and feature a performance by Rosie Rae the Pitbull, the Cutest dog award, a parade of adoptable dogs and a yoga cool down, according to a news release for the event.

PAWS Chicago says it is "committed to bringing an end to the killing of homeless cats and dogs." Since 1997, when the nonprofit organization was founded, the number of homeless pets killed in the city has dropped by 80 percent, the release said.

After the race Sunday, there will also be live entertainment, food trucks, prizes and raffles. The family and dog-friendly event will feature an interactive dog agility course, kids' games and giveaways from sponsors.

Registration for the event begins at 7:30 a.m. The 5K run, which is not dog-friendly, begins at 9 a.m. The 5K walk, which is dog-friendly begins at 9:15 a.m.
