BEVERLY — Southsiders for Peace will hold vigils Saturday at 103rd Street and Western Avenue in Beverly and later at the Chicago Police Department's Morgan Park Station.

The first vigil will be held from 1-1:45 p.m. near Beverly Bank. From there, the group will drive to the police station at 1900 W. Monterey Ave. in Morgan Park for a second vigil, according to the group's website.

Organizers of the vigil have recommended that participants make signs that read, "Murder is not the answer," "Killing is not the answer," "Thou shalt not murder" and other signs in with similar messages.

Southsiders for Peace will also have will have an assortment of signs — including peace signs — available. The group recommended bringing plenty of water and to wear a hat to protect against the sun.

The local organization describes itself online as a "group of active citizens who care about peace and justice." Launched in response to the war in Iraq, Southsiders for Peace oppose American military involvement abroad and work to fight for social justice on the Far Southwest Side.

The group meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month on the second floor of the Beverly Unitarian Church at 10244 S. Longwood Drive in Beverly. For more information, visit the Southsiders for Peace website.
