DOWNTOWN — A Mexican restaurant near Millennium Park is open again after months of renovations, and it's throwing a party with free tacos and margaritas to celebrate.

Mezcalina, 333 E. Benton Place, will serve free tacos and margaritas from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, according to the restaurant and its developer, David Carlins of Magellan Development Group.

The restaurant posted news of the reopening party to its Facebook page Monday, and Carlins shared the event with neighbors attending a meeting Wednesday about the Wanda Vista skyscraper planned nearby

The restaurant in the neighborhood known as Lakeshore East closed several months ago for extensive renovations, and reopened this week. Inspired by the cuisine of Oaxaca and southern Mexico, Mezcalina has a 3.5 star rating on Yelp.

A host at the restaurant was not aware of any stipulations tied to the free tacos and margaritas promotion.
