ROGERS PARK — Rogers Parkers showed their hunger for activism over the weekend at Smack Dab bakery, which generated $1,312 for Black Lives Matter through doughnut sales, more than doubling its original goal of donating $600 to the organization.

Christine Forster, owner of the independent pastry shop at 7006 N. Glenwood Ave., earlier said she wanted to make a "small gesture" to help the group's efforts in Chicago rather than doing nothing or "intellectualizing the issue to death."

The shop sold 944 doughnuts Saturday and Sunday.

"We are so grateful for the response we got from the community," Forster said.

After the first say of sales alone, the shop posted on its Facebook page it had sold 413 doughnuts, generating $616 — already exceeding its initial goal.

By the end of sales Sunday, the shop had sold over 500 more doughnuts, earning a total of $1,312 to give to Black Lives Matter.
