PORTAGE PARK — Some residents of Portage Park and Dunning will get their trash and recyclables picked up on a new schedule, Ald. Gilbert Villegas (38th) said.

Homes on Addison Street, Patterson Avenue, Waveland Avenue and Warwick Avenue on the northern edge of the 36th Ward will see their garbage pickup days change, Villegas said.

Homes east of Narragansett Avenue and west of Austin Avenue between Warwick and Patterson avenues will get their garbage picked up Tuesdays. Homes east of Austin Avenue to Linder Avenue between Warwick and Patterson avenues will get their refuge hauled away on Wednesdays.

But homes west of Central Avenue and east of Austin along Addison Street and Patterson Avenue will get their trash picked up Tuesdays, Villegas said.

The changes go into effect, Monday, Villegas said.

The changes go into effect Monday, Villegas said.

New pickup days will allow 10 crews to be assigned to trim trees as part of the effort touted by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to end the backlog of requests by the end of the year.

In addition, crews will be assigned to rodent control in an effort to reduce residents' wait time from seven days to five days, officials said.

Homes that put their blue recycling carts out front on the curb will have their recycling hauled away on the same day as their garbage collection, Villegas said.

But homes whose recycling carts are picked up in the alley should leave their blue carts in the alley during the entire service week to ensure collection, Villegas said.
