BEVERLY — The Chicago Shakespeare Theater will perform "Twelfth Night" from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at Ridge Park.

It is free to attend the live show at 9625 S. Longwood Drive in Beverly, which is part of the Chicago's Shakespeare 400 festival honoring the British playwright's 400th birthday.

Actors from the Beverly Arts Center and Munroe Park Theater Guild will also return this year to perform a "Green Show" ahead of the main performance. Inspired by Shakespearean tradition, these opening acts feature local artists meant to reflect a neighborhood’s culture and spirit.

"They were called 'green' because they took place 'on the green' outside the theater before the play started," according to Emma Perrin, a Chicago Shakespeare Theater spokeswoman.

The city-wide Shakespeare performances are meant to bring cultural events to the neighborhood level, as well as serve as a way for the community to promote healthy activities in the parks, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said upon announcing program.

Performances of Shakespeare's plays have taken place in neighborhood parks for the last four years. As for "Twelfth Night," the park district describes the 75-minute romantic comedy as a story of, "mistaken identity and unlikely love."
