CHICAGO — A shooting in Austin left a 22-year-old man critically wounded on Friday afternoon, police said.
At 12:16 p.m., the man was outside in the 5400 block of West Iowa Street when a masked man walked up, took out a gun and fired shots, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.
The man was hit in his chest, right arm, right buttock and groin, Estrada said. A good Samaritan drove him to West Suburban Hospital and the man was transferred to Stroger Hospital.
The man was in critical but stable condition, Estrada said.
The man was a documented gang member, police said, and the shooting might be gang-related.
No one was in custody in the shooting.
