CHICAGO — The city will be hot and rainy throughout the day on Wednesday — including during the commute home — but at least the rest of the week is looking up.
Showers will move through the city from the morning until about 12:30 p.m., said AccuWeather meteorologist Paul Walker. There will be a break, but thunderstorms will start about 5 p.m. and last into the night.
The storms shouldn't be severe, Walker said: Some parts of the city could get 1 inch of rain while other neighborhoods are relatively dry, and wind gusts could 35-45 mph. But Wednesday is also expected to hit 87 degrees, Walker said.
"I think the biggest thing will be some downpours and some gusty winds," Walker said.
Thursday should be partly sunny, less humid and rain-free, Walker said. There should be a breeze and a high of 86 degrees. Showers are possible on Friday, but the day will also be cooler at just 77 degrees.
July has been slightly wetter than normal so far for Chicago, Walker said, though rainfall varies throughout the area. O'Hare has seen 1.92 inches of rain so far, while it usually only sees 1.31 inches. Midway is "right about normal," Walker said.
