WICKER PARK — A hair extension boutique is joining the northwest corner of North and Hermitage avenues and will replace Broken Cherry.

Owner Kesha Sims said that if everything goes as planned, Creed Couture Hair Extensions Boutique will open on Aug. 6 at 1734 W. North Ave.

Sims previously owned a similar store for three years in suburban Calumet City, which she said she recently closed.

"I love the area," Sims said of Wicker Park.

Sims has traveled around the world to source the human hair sold at her store. There are no chemicals used in the hair, which is available in bundles, she said.

Extensions start at around $100 per bundle and can go up to several hundred. The hair lasts about a year or two, but regular maintenance is required.

As an opening special, Sims said she plans to offer a discount to those who buy three hair bundles.

Sims' landlord Matthew Gabriel, who has operated a screenprinting shop out of the building since 1978, welcomed the new addition.

The space has been empty since rockabilly apparel shop Broken Cherry closed in 2014. It is on the opposite corner from a new 17-unit condo building that's anchored by a soon-to-open I Love Kickboxing studio.

"I am happy [to have a new tenant]. There is a lot of change happening, but not too much traffic on this part of North Avenue. We are only 200 yards from Damen, but there is not as much business to the east [of Damen]," Gabriel said.
