CALUMET HEIGHTS- A police-involved shooting left a man wounded when officers responded to a call in Calumet Heights on Sunday, officials said.
The police department issued a statement on the shooting on Sunday.
"On July 10, 2016, at approximately 1:05 a.m., 004th District (South Chicago) Officers responded to an assist EMS “man threatening suicide with a gun” call in the 1800 block of E. 87th St.
Officers arrived and made entry into the residence where they were confronted by a male offender holding a gun in his hand. Officers repeatedly ordered the offender to drop the weapon at which time the offender pointed the weapon at the officers. As a result of this action, an officer discharged his service weapon and a second officer deployed a taser, striking the offender. The offender was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No officers sustained injuries, and a weapon was recovered on scene.
Currently, the specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation are being investigated by the Independent Police Review Authority with the full cooperation of the CPD. Officers involved in this incident were wearing body cameras."
The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a period of 30 days, police said.
