PORTAGE PARK — A pop-up Bluegrass performance set for Friday evening will celebrate the opening of the first People Spot at Six Corners.

Sweet Fanny Adams — otherwise known as Lori Ramos — will perform as part of a celebration of the new People Spot near Milwaukee and Culyer avenues, which is designed to make Six Corners more walkable.

The People Spot, outside Josi's Frozen Yogurt at 4032 N. Milwaukee Ave., was one of three that won the support of voters as part of 45th Ward Ald. John Arena's 2015 participatory budgeting election.

People spots transform parking spots into playful places for people to gather, officials said.

The Six Corners Association has been working to make the shopping district more attractive to pedestrians and bicyclists as part of its effort to revitalize the area.

The push included raising $10,000 for new bike corrals and plans for a Divvy station to be installed at Six Corners this summer.

In addition, the association crafted a plan with the Active Transportation Alliance to help pedestrians and cyclists get around safely.
