LINCOLN PARK — Service was delayed Thursday afternoon on the Brown Line because of a pair of "suspicious packages" that turned out to only contain clothing and toiletries, officials said.

Once crews realized there was no threat, service resumed.

At 11:08 a.m., police received a call of two bags sitting on a roof near the Sedgwick Brown Line station, according to Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The CTA suspended all Brown Line service below Fullerton, diverting passengers to the Red Line or the 8, 22 and 36 buses, according to CTA spokesman Jeff Tolman.

The Police Bomb Unit arrived at the scene and declared the bags safe around 12:50 p.m., Amezaga said.

Full Brown Line service was restored, albeit with "residual delays," at 1:03 p.m., Tolman said.
