DOWNTOWN — A woman died after being struck by a northbound Red Line train in the Jackson subway station late Tuesday night, police and CTA officials said.

The woman was struck around 11 p.m. and was killed almost instantly, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Trains were re-routed to operate above ground between the Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown stations, according to CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski.

Full service was restored by 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, Hosinski said.

It was unclear how the woman got onto the tracks, officials said.
