CHICAGO — It's going to be a perfect Fourth of July weekend for being outside.

The weekend is expected to be cooler than usual and dry, said AccuWeather meteorologist Dave Bowers. There is a chance rain could hit the city Saturday night into Sunday, Bowers said, but the odds are against it.

Friday to Sunday will see temperatures in the 70s, with Friday in particular being cooler than the average of 84 degrees Chicago has seen on July 1, Bowers said. The days are expected to be dry with some clouds, and Sunday will have a light breeze off Lake Michigan.

Monday, when everyone is celebrating Independence Day, will have a high of 80 degrees, Bowers said. The day will be dry and partly sunny.

It will be “unusually comfortable for a Fourth of July weekend,” Bowers said. People should still avoid overstressing themselves and should make sure they're drinking enough water.

“I’d be outside hiking, going on a hike somewhere. Hiking, biking,” Bowers said. “Still gotta put on the sunscreen, but that’s about it.”
