CHICAGO — The Skyway has no plans to replace the McDonald's that once stood in the middle of the lanes.

The McDonald's was closed last summer due to a drop in sales. It was demolished to make way for a reconfiguration of lanes on the Skyway, said spokeswoman Avis LaVelle on Friday. There will now be express lanes for drivers who have an I-Pass.

There are no plans as of now to bring in other restaurants or a McDonald's replacement, LaVelle said, though the Skyway is planning to change the look of the Skyway plaza.

"This is the first step in what is going to be a refresh of the plaza, which hasn't had a facelift in probably decades," LaVelle said. "The Skyway has a kind of retro look when you look at the plaza, and it's because it has not been changed basically since it was established."

The update will start later this year and shouldn't affect traffic, LaVelle said.

Last year, readers told DNAinfo they'd like to see a gas station replace the McDonald's in an informal online poll.
