NORWOOD PARK — Children can deck out their bicycles in red, white and blue to celebrate Independence Day in Oriole Park, organizers said.

The annual bicycle parade organized by the Oriole Park Community Club will step off at 9:30 a.m. July 4 from the north end of Oriole Park at 7500 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., organizers said.

A free bicycle clinic from 10 a.m.-noon July 2 at Oriole Park will give parade participants a chance to make sure their two- and three-wheelers are in good riding condition.

Bicycle safety activities and games organized by the Chicago Department of Transportation's Bike Ambassador program will also take place, along with raffles. Refreshments will be served, and decorating for the parade will begin.

Children of all ages are encouraged to decorate their bikes in patriotic colors and ride the parade route, which will head west on Bryn Mawr Avenue to Oriole Avenue before heading south to Berwyn Avenue and finally north and east on Olcott Avenue back to Oriole Park, organizers said.

Participants will get prizes, and parents and residents are invited to march alongside the bicycles.

Revolutionary War re-enactors are expected to march in the parade, along with local Boy Scout troops, organizers said.

The Oriole Park Elementary School Band is scheduled to perform, organizers said.
