LAKEVIEW — A typically busy stretch of Lincoln Avenue through Lakeview was shut down Friday morning after a suspicious package was found outside the local Scientology center.

Emergency crews rushed to the 3000 block of North Lincoln Avenue at about 1 0 a.m. Friday after receiving calls about a suspicious package, said Jeff Lyle, Deputy District Chief with the fire department.

Lyle said the situation is ongoing and the firefighters were waiting on bomb technicians with the Chicago Police Department.

The package was found outside the Church of Scientology Chicago, 3011 N. Lincoln Ave., said Debra Diaz, who works at Peerless Rugs, 3033 N. Lincoln. Ave. She said the church as well as a number of other businesses were asked to evacuate their buildings.

"They're just keeping us in here, though," she said of the rug shop. "The [firefighters] have a hose going. I can hear more trucks coming."
