UPTOWN — Fire dancers and drummers will take over the Lakefront on Wednesday for the monthly Full Moon Fire Jam.

The free monthly event, which takes place from spring into fall, "unites performing artists and spectators through a love and appreciation of fire art" with a myriad of performance styles set to percussion beats of local musicians, according to its website.

The jam was created in 2004 by a few friends coming together for a birthday party and has grown to a monthly celebration "a diverse community of performers, musicians and spectators," the website said.

"Once the sun sets, dozens of fire dancers perform to music provided by local percussionists, using performance tools such as poi (a set of chains with weighted ends), staff, hula hoops and fans. Fire spinners include everyone from hobbyists to professional performance artists," according to the website.

Organizers recommend you come early to secure a space and bring water and blankets. The event is family-friendly and pets are allowed on leash. Alcohol is not allowed at the event.

The jam begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and is held south of the Foster Avenue Turf Fields on the east side of the lakefront near the 5100 block of North Lake Shore Drive. The event ends at 10 p.m. For the full schedule for 2016 click here.
