MOUNT GREENWOOD — Saint Xavier University has received a $341,366 grant to help nurses seeking graduate degrees, according to U.S. Rep. Daniel Lipinski (D-3rd).

Lipinski issued a press release Friday afternoon announcing the grant issued through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The funds are directed at those looking to become advance practice nurses and can be used for tuition, books and program fees, as well as reasonable living expenses.

“We need more young women and men working in health care and this funding will provide the opportunity for more students to get valuable advanced nursing degrees," Lipinski said in the release.

The university based at 3700 W. 103rd St. in Mount Greenwood has also worked with Lipinski to secure funds for its library along with its science, technology, engineering, and math — or STEM — education programs, the congressman said.

“Saint Xavier is serving a critical mission educating so many young people – many of whom are first-generation college students – and preparing them for their future careers,” he said.
