WICKER PARK — A man is in critical condition after being stabbed in the chest, head and arm early Thursday during a fight in the street in Wicker Park, police said.

The incident happened at 1:57 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Lemmon said that the man, 31, was "involved in a large fight," when another man approached him and stabbed him. The victim suffered wounds to the torso, arm and head and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, she said.

No one is in custody and Area North detectives are investigating, Lemmon said.

A maintenance worker from Crocodile, a bar at 1540 N. Milwaukee Ave. said Thursday morning that the fight and stabbing happened in the street after the bar had closed at 2 a.m..

"It happened from 2:06 to 2:10 a.m. We handled over video to the cops," the worker said.

The worker said he did not know if the people involved had been inside of the bar before the fight broke out.

Crocodile Lounge's owner, Radek Hawryszcuk, did not immediately respond to a request for comment, nor did Ald. Joe Moreno (1st).

Next door to Crocodile, in front of LensCrafters, there appeared to be blood on the sidewalk Thursday morning. A rag soaked with blood was scrunched up atop a sewer drain, next to a latex glove.

A witness who lives across the street posted a photo of police in front of the Crocodile early Thursday on Facebook.

"Crime scene on Milwaukee south of North. It appears there was an altercation at Crocodile that spilled out onto the street. Speculation that someone was stabbed. There is a significant amount of blood in front of the LensCrafters. Cops are talking to a number of people. Looks like they might be waiting on an evidence tech," the witness wrote.
