BUCKTOWN — A men's clothing boutique known for its friendly service just steps from The 606's Damen Avenue ramp will close June 26.

"Bringing style to Bucktown for 15 years. We are all about to see some slouchy guys around town," one crushed shopper scrawled in royal blue marker on an impromptu "goodbye wall" full of well-wishes and thanks.

Located at 1804 N. Damen Ave., Apartment Number 9 opened in November 2001 and is owned by sisters Amy and Sarah Blessing.

Though much of the merchandise has been snatched up, some discounted clothes by designers Tom Brown and Paul Smith remain, as well as Converse shoes, wallets, cufflinks, socks, notebooks, shaving razors and other accessories.

Fixtures, shelving and display cases are also for sale.

"We had been thinking about [closing] for awhile. [Amy and Sarah Blessing] had other opportunities that came up and they wanted to explore those," said Fatima Mohiuddin, a sales manager who has worked at Apartment Number 9 for more than 10 years and is a familiar face there.

So far, no tenant has been tapped to replace the store. According to a Baum Realty Group listing, the 1,200-square-foot shop is for rent.

Though the store has experienced some recent crime — including a February "smash-and-grab" burglary and vandalized windows in April, incidents Mohiuddin called, "sad and disheartening" — they did not play a role in the decision to close.

"This closing is not about that. The nature of retail has changed a bit over the course of our business years. We are happily moving on to other things," she said.

Mohiuddin added, "This has been fun, we enjoyed it; it was a good run."
