CHICAGO — The mother of a 1-month-old is being investigated in his death, officials said.

Leo Alvarado, of the 4400 block of South Richmond Street, was pronounced dead on Monday, according to Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records.

About 7 p.m., Alvarado's mother went into the boy's room to feed him and found him unresponsive, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The baby was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Department of Children and Family Services said the boy's mother was being investigated for allegations abuse. The department had contact with the mother before, a spokeswoman said.

No other children were in the home.

A death investigation is ongoing, Pacheco said.
