CHICAGO — Robbers shot a man in the back, critically wounding him, after stealing the man's cellphone Wednesday night in Austin, police said.
At 9:50 p.m., a 19-year-old man and a woman were standing on the front porch of a home in the 5400 block of West Haddon Avenue when two men walked out of a gangway and started to rob them, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.
The robbers took the victim's cellphone and then fired shots before running off, Estrada said.
The man was hit in the back and was taken to Loyola Medical Center in critical condition, Estrada said.
No one was in custody.
