UPTOWN — Courtenay Elementary School is asking for the public's help in funding their third annual Courtenay Fest this weekend.

The festival will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the school, 4420 N. Beacon St., and include family fun such as music, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, an ice cream bar and a dunk tank with principal Macquline King and Thomas Boyle, according to a press release for the event.

"In order to make Courtenay Fest a reality this year, we need help. Due to massive budget cuts and an overabundance of new budget rules, we do not have the access to the money we were anticipating to fund our event," said King.

Last year, the festival attracted more than 500 people and this year the school expects even more families.

"To experience Courtenay fest is to participate in an amazing connection between the school and the community it serves," she said.  "As a school, we look forward to this end of the year event and it is quickly becoming rooted in our traditions."

To help the school purchase items for the festival you can donate gift cards, cash or checks made out to "Friends of Courtenay." You can also reach the school by emailing Elizabeth Pikes at ejpikes@cps.
