EDGEWATER — The corner that formerly housed what was once called "one of the best pet stores in the history of the city" — but has been vacant over a year — will soon see new life as a dentist office, city records show.

At the corner of Balmoral Avenue and North Broadway in Edgewater, Parkview Pet Supplies was in business about 10 years after moving from Lincoln Park.

The store closed at the tail end of 2014, citing difficulty in sales competing against the online shopping market.

In March 2014 when Parkview moved from Lincoln Park to Chicago, the Tribune noted it as "one of the best pet stores in the history of the city" that was well-known for its annual Halloween pet costume contest parties — a trend that continued in Edgewater.

For more than a year, the once-bustling location has sat empty, but new permits issued by the city show denist Gary Monson, who currently has an office downtown, is planning to renovate the space for a new office.

A permit for the $60,000 renovation was issued Monday, records show.

Monson did not return request for comment.
