LOGAN SQUARE — A Logan Square church is planning a Monday night vigil at the base of the Eagle monument to pray for the victims and families of the Orlando shooting.

The vigil will take place at 7 p.m. at the Illinois Centennial Monument, 3150 W. Logan Boulevard.

"It's just a time for us to come together to love on some people, pray for them, grieve for them and show our support," said Angel Vega, outreach and engagement director for the Armitage Baptist Church. "I think it's important to get out into the community and not stay within these four walls. This effects everybody. It was tragic.”

There have already been a number of gatherings around the city to mourn the 50 people killed and 53 wounded in an attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando.

The Armitage Baptist Church is inviting the Logan Square community, businesses, churches and anyone else who wishes to come to the vigil Monday.

"There has to be an outlet. There has to be a time to grieve, a place to grieve," Vega said. "How much more of this can we take as a city, as a state, as a world? It’s happening everywhere."
