BEVERLY — Southsiders For Peace will hold a vigil at 7 p.m. Monday "to grieve and honor the victims in Orlando," the group posted online late Sunday night.
The vigil at 103rd Street and Western Avenue in Beverly was posted on the organization's Yahoo Groups page. Those attending are encouraged to bring a candle, flashlight, sign or whatever else may be appropriate.
"This is a very rushed thing, but we can stand up against this awful act of hate and against racism. Our message is peace and unity," the post read.
The message about the vigil went on to say that the Southsiders For Peace also stand in solidarity with Muslims, "in view of the almost certain backlash against them."
On Sunday morning, a gunman opened fire inside the Orlando nightclub, killing 50 people and wounding 53 others.
Authorities say suspect Omar Mateen carried an AR-15 and fired relentlessly.
When the gunfire at the Pulse Orlando club finally stopped the attack proved to be the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
Mateen, who authorities said had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, died in a gun battle with SWAT team members, the AP report said.
