DUNNING — Dads and their kids can celebrate Father's Day with a bicycle ride hosted by Eli's Cheesecake — and earn a good excuse for a slice of the Chicago desert tradition.

The 12th annual bicycle ride will take place at 10 a.m. June 19 at Eli's Cheesecake Bakery Cafe, 6701 W. Forest Preserve Drive.

A free continental breakfast for riders — who will also get a T-shirt — will begin at 8:45 a.m. before the ride.

The route through Dunning and Portage Park will cover 10 miles at a recreational speed, organizers said.

Registration for the free ride is available online through June 17.

Helmets are encouraged, but not required. Rudy's Cycle & Fitness, 5711 W. Irving Park Road, one of the sponsors of the ride, is offering free safety inspections and a discount on helmets for participants.
