WEST RIDGE — A bullet struck a northbound CTA bus traveling in West Ridge on Monday night, police said.
Around 8:20 p.m., the driver of the bus heard shots being fired at the vehicle while driving in the 6300 block of North Western Avenue, and at least one bullet hit the bus' windshield, said News Affairs Officer Kevin Quaid.
Police believe someone was shooting at the bus.
No injuries were reported, Quaid said.
The CTA 49B Western Avenue route has a bus stop in front of Smilin' Jim's Saloon, on the west side of the street, near the corner of Western and Rosemont Avenues, just south of Devon Avenue.
Jeff Tolman, a CTA spokesman, said passengers aboard the bus exited and took the following bus.
The CTA is assisting the police in their investigation, including handing over any available surveillance footage from inside the bus, Tolman said.
A witness who drove by the scene around 11 p.m. said police still had the area near the bar cordoned off and appeared to be investigating.
