CHICAGO — A 27-year-old man was killed and a 23-year-old woman was wounded in a South Loop shooting early Monday, according to police.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Sami Talab Salaymeh, of suburban Hanover Park.

The man and woman were in a car in the 2400 block of South Michigan Avenue at 4 a.m. when two men walked up and one of them opened fire, said Officer Bari Lemmon, Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was shot in his stomach and the woman was shot in her right leg, Lemmon said. Both got themselves to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where the man was listed in critical condition before he died, Lemmon said.

The woman's condition was not released, but police considered her to be stable, Lemmon said.

No arrests have been made, Lemmon said.
