8 Things To Do In Uptown And Andersonville This Weekend

UPTOWN AND ANDERSONVILLE — Looking for some fun to get into this weekend?

Here is a list of eight things happening in the neighborhoods this weekend:

1. Pivots Art Festival: Looking to enjoy some multidisciplinary art this weekend? Check out the 10-day festival showcasing some of the city's top artistic innovators with "live music, theater, dance, children’s performances, workshops, discussions, a community dinner, wine tastings and more." The festival wil be held at various locations in Edgewater and Uptown including: Bar 63, Francesca's Bryn Mawr, Loyola University's Mundelein Center for the Arts, the Preston Bradley Center and Uptown Underground. 2. Mock the Ad Industry with a Musical: "Not As Advertised," created by Jason Geis, follows two recent graduates looking for a job in the advertising world. The musical comedy debuted earlier this month and runs Saturdays until July 16. For more details about the show including a trailer, click here. 3. Learn the True Story of the First Woman to Fly Around The World: Rita Juanita Mock tells the story of her grandmother Jerrie Mock, the first woman to fly solo around the world, in an independent production at First Free Church. The show runs at 8 p.m. Friday, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday. 5255 N. Ashland Ave.

4. Live Band Burlesque at Uptown Underground: The Friday night entertainment features the Kiss Kiss Cabaret and friends along with a special 9 p.m. live band burlesque show with the "Brooklyn Britches and The Whispers." General admission tickets are $25 and premium reserved tickets are $40. 9 p.m. 4713 N. Broadway.

5. Sturgill Simpson at the Riviera Theatre: Sturgill Simpson's "A Sailor's Guide To Earth" tour makes a stop at the Riviera Theatre Friday. The album, which the tour is named after, "traverses the entire world, both musically and lyrically." Tickets are $35. Show begins at 8:30 p.m. 4746 N. Racine Ave.

6. Check Out a New Restaurant: Crazy Crab, a Cajun seafood restaurant, opened its doors in Uptown earlier this week. Read more information about the restaurant here. 3 p.m. - 11 p.m. 4650 N. Clark St.

7. Live Music at The Green Mill: The Rob Clearfield RRP will perform two shows at the Green Mill this weekend. The band features Clearfield on the piano, Curt Bely on bass and Quin Kirchner on drums. From 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday and 8 p.m.-midnight Saturday. $15 cover. 4802 N. Broadway.

8. Enjoy Some Magic At Uptown Underground: Uptown Underground's Magic Lounge is a step back-in-time to Chicago's old-school magic bars, featuring up-close illusions, bar magic, table hopping magicians and main stage acts. General admission tickets are $25, deluxe tickets are $30 and premium reserved tickets are $40. 4713 N. Broadway. 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
