Portage Park, Jefferson Park Farmers Markets Kicking Off for Season

JEFFERSON PARK — Residents of the Far Northwest Side desperate to pick up some heirloom tomatoes and fresh eggs are in luck: Two farmers markets are gearing up in Portage Park and Jefferson Park.

The first Portage Park Farmers Market of the season will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday near Berteau and Central avenues in the park, 4100 N. Long Ave.

A variety of vendors will sell produce, meats, baked goods, dairy products, as well as prepared foods and specialty items.

The Portage Park market will also take place June 19, July 17, July 31, Aug. 7, Aug. 21, Sept. 18 and Oct. 2.

The Jefferson Park Sunday Market, will return to Jefferson Memorial Park, 4822 N. Long Ave., for the fourth year and the sixth year overall.

The first market of the year will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 12. The market will feature food from Magic Circle Crepes and Tamale Express as well as a plant swap, organizers said.

Produce, meats, cheese, veggie burgers, soups, honey, soaps and crafts will also be available for purchase.

The Jefferson Park market will also take place June 26, July 10, July 24, Aug. 14, Aug. 28, Sept. 11, Sept. 25, Oct. 9 and Oct. 23.
