COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Logan Square man knocked out a woman's dentures while raping and beating her inside a basement after meeting her in a local bar, prosecutors said Friday.

Geovannie Collazo, 18, is accused of meeting the 50-year-old woman at the Two Way Lounge in April, then hitting her in the head as they left the tavern. He dragged her to a basement and then beat her with a metal pipe while shouting, "I am going to kill you, b----," before taking turns raping her with his friend.

The victim — who was found in a pool of blood 10 hours later — spent eight days in a hospital with a broken jaw, severe bruising and stitches to her head, prosecutors said.

"'Attack' is not even an appropriate word for me to use in this case," Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas told Collazo during a bond hearing Friday. "No bail."

The judge called the allegations against Collazo "brutal and heinous," noting that he allegedly "struck the victim in the head with a metal pipe before leaving her for dead ... in a pool of blood."

Collazo and an accomplice, who has yet to be charged, met the victim April 24 at Two Way Lounge, 2928 W. Fullerton Ave., Assistant State's Attorney Marilyn Salas-Wail said in court Friday.

The victim had a few beers by herself before heading outside to smoke a cigarette, prosecutors said. Collazo allegedly followed the woman outside and asked for a smoke before eventually inviting her to play pool with him and his friend.

As the trio left the bar about 1 a.m. April 25, the victim was hit on the back of her head and knocked unconscious, prosecutors said.

She awoke to find Collazo and his accomplice dragging her into a basement in the 2600 block of North Spaulding Avenue, according to Salas-Wail.

There, the accomplice ripped off the victim's clothing while Collazo punched her in the face and head, prosecutors said.

Collazo hit the woman so hard that her dentures came out and flew across the floor, Salas-Wail said. The victim would later need surgery for her broken jaw.

Both men then raped the woman and continued to beat her as she drifted in and out of consciousness, prosecutors said.

A witness found the victim lying in the basement about 11 a.m. April 25, according to court testimony.

The woman couldn't open her eyes due to swelling, Salas-Wail said, and a rape kit was later collected at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. In addition to the broken jaw, the victim was treated for "severe bruising" to her face and neck and a deep cut to her forehead that required stitches.

Police on the scene found two condom wrappers, a metal pipe, the victim's dentures, the victim's clothing and a bottle of wine, prosecutors said.

Authorities were able to match both DNA from one of the condoms and a fingerprint on the wine bottle to Collazo, according to Salas-Wail.

Surveillance footage shows Collazo and his accomplice back at the Two Way Lounge the morning after the attack, playing pool together. A witness at the bar identified Collazo, prosecutors said.

Additionally, Salas-Wail noted, the victim's phone was missing after she was raped. Phone records show it was used to make several calls to Collazo's mother and father in the days following the attack.

According to prosecutors, Collazo has juvenile convictions for aggravated battery to a school employee and possession of marijuana. His public defender in court Friday said Collazo works with his father, is taking online classes to finish high school and hopes to one day attend college.

"He does have plans to get the tattoos removed from his face," the attorney said.

Judge Chiampas in court Friday said detectives told her the victim "would never be the same" following the brutal attack. She ordered Collazo, of the 2700 block of North Sawyer Avenue, held without bail.
