EDGEWATER — A day at Foster Beach Saturday will celebrate refugees who have settled in the city with a peace rally and march, potluck picnic, soccer tournament, music performances and more.
From 11 a.m.-4p.m. the park's soccer fields will host families from across Chicago as they join together to take part in World Refugee Day, an international day of recognition started by the United Nations to "honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homes under the threat of persecution, conflict and other forms of violence."
From 12-1 p.m. a "One Human Family" peace march will jaunt through the park before festivities kick-off.
The free event will feature activities geared toward kids, as well as live performances, a sports tournament (that begins at 9 a.m.) and a potluck lunch.
