DOWNTOWN — The city is about to get pelted with strong rain, wind and hail.

Parts of Chicago have already faced gusts of wind as high as 50 mph and pea-sized hail on Tuesday, said AccuWeather meteorologist Andy Mussoline. Heavy rain is expected to begin between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. and it will be accompanied by strong winds and a small amount of hail.

The storms will continue into the evening and overnight, Mussoline said.

“We anticipate additional showers and thunderstorms to move through the city, but at this point we don’t believe that they will be as strong as these thunderstorms are right now,” Mussoline said.

Thunderstorms will also hit the city on Wednesday, with rain coming during the morning commute and evening commuters potentially getting slammed by rain, hail and damaging wind.

“Even in the morning commute as people are heading out the door, traveling in and out of the city tomorrow,” Mussoline said. “We do believe that the showers and thunderstorms will be more numerous during the afternoon.”

The city is expected to get 1/2 and inch to 1 inch of rain throughout the storms, Mussoline said.
