WICKER PARK — Two men and two women walking together in Wicker Park were robbed at gunpoint early Monday on Paulina Street near LeMoyne Street, police say.

The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. Monday in the 1500 block of North Paulina Street, according to Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The mugger approached two woman, 34 and 31, and two men, 37 and 32, and demanded cash.

"When they refused, he pulled out a handgun," Sweeney said.

There were no injuries and no one is in custody. Three of the four victims had valuables stolen.

The gunman, who ran off, was described as black, between 20 and 25 years old, 5-foot-6 inches to 5-foot-9 inches tall and 135-155 pounds, police said.

A witness told DNAinfo he was on his way to a friend's place and initially was walking behind the group but ended up crossing the street because they were walking too slow.

"I was about half a block past them when I heard a woman say, 'What the f---, are we really getting held up right now?' " the witness said.

"The girl was yelling, 'F-- you, that's not a real gun,' and the others are like, 'You are not supposed to yell at him.' She ran away from the scene and then from what I could see, it looked like the others were turning over their cell phones to him. She was the one calling 911," the witness said.

Sweeney said that belongings were not taken from the 31-year-old woman who was part of the foursome but could not confirm that she was the one who called 911 for help.

The witness, who said he watched the robber duck into an alley just south of LeMoyne Street after robbing the group, said the robbery was disheartening.

"It was four people having a good time on the Sunday before Memorial Day and they were upset, screaming and hyperventilating. A bunch of squad cars came right away and they started canvassing [looking for robber]," the witness said.
