Burglaries in Washington Heights, Auburn Gresham Prompt Police Alert

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Chicago Police are warning residents after a string of residential burglaries this month in Auburn Gresham and Washington Heights — including four on the same block.

The crimes have occurred in the area between 88th and 91st streets, Hermitage Avenue and Laflin Street — all within Beat 2221 as defined by police in the Morgan Park District, police said.

In several of the break-ins, someone entered the victim's homes by breaking the window on a rear door, reaching inside and unlocking it. In one instance, the victim’s apartment door was pried open, according to police.

The burglaries occurred:

• 8 a.m.-10 a.m. May 1 in the 8800 block of South Hermitage Avenue in Auburn Gresham

• 5 a.m.-midnight May 10 in the 9100 block of South Paulina Street in Washington Heights

• 7 a.m.-7 p.m. May 11 in the 1700 block of West 90th Place in Washington Heights

• 5:30 a.m.-midnight May 9, May 14, Monday and Tuesday in the 1500 block of West 91st Street in Washington Heights

Police recommend keeping all doors and windows properly secured, as well as locking all gates and backyard fences. Anyone with information about these burglaries is asked to call detectives at 312-747-8273.
