COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Two off-duty Chicago Police officers caught a car burglar in Avondale this week, prosecutors said Wednesday.

The officers were in the 2300 block of West Wolfram Street late Monday when they heard a car alarm going off, Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said during a bond hearing Wednesday.

When the officers looked outside, they spotted Jovany Flores, 32, breaking into a Mercedes C300 and rifling through the glove box, according to police and prosecutors.

Following a brief struggle, the officers were able to arrest Flores about 11:30 p.m. Monday, court records show. Flores is accused of flailing his arms, stiffening his body and trying to escape from the two officers.

Flores, of the 4400 block of West Diversey Avenue, is charged with burglary, aggravated battery to a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. on Wednesday ordered Flores held in lieu of $150,000 bail.
