COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A 27-year-old Hermosa man is accused of raping an 11-year-old girl he met on Facebook.
The two were strangers before they began talking on Facebook Messenger in early March, Assistant State's Attorney Lesley Gool said during a bond hearing Wednesday.
It's not clear how Erik Coquet, 27, initially connected with the 11-year-old girl. But according to prosecutors, the pair eventually exchanged phone numbers and began to text.
Sometime after midnight May 8, Coquet picked up the girl near Pulaski and Fullerton and drove her back to his house in the 1800 block of North Keeler Avenue, Gool said.
There, Coquet gave the girl beer before raping and anally raping her, according to prosecutors. She woke up naked in Coquet's bed on the afternoon of May 8, and Coquet eventually dropped off the girl near 45th and Maple, authorities said.
Meanwhile, the girl's mother awoke May 8 to find her daughter missing, Gool said. Though the girl's mother and sister called the victim multiple times, the girl never answered her phone. She was reported missing to the Chicago Police Department, Gool noted.
Finally, about 11 p.m. May 8, the victim answered her cellphone when her sister called, according to prosecutors. When the sister picked up the 11-year-old girl at a Dunkin Donuts near 45th and Harlem, the girl allegedly said her vaginal area hurt.
The sister called 911, Gool said, and the girl was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital, where a rape kit was collected.
Police found sexually explicit messages from Coquet on the 11-year-old girl's phone, prosecutors said, and Coquet admitted to raping the girl in a videotaped confession.
He is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault.
Cook County Judge James Brown on Wednesday ordered Coquet held in lieu of $750,000 bail.
