Mother McAuley Yearbook Duo Win State Journalism Prize

MOUNT GREENWOOD — Natalie Delich and Kristyna Kresic of Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School won first place for yearbook theme development last month in the journalism state tournament.

The seniors from the all-girls school at 3737 W. 99th St. in Mount Greenwood took home the top prize from the Illinois High School Association April 29.

Delich of Beverly and Kresic of south suburban Oak Lawn are part of the school's Inscape yearbook and newspaper staff. Students write news stories, editorials and features for the publications as well as learn about advertising, editing, design and lay out.

Inscape is offered as elective course. The publication's faculty advisors, Diana Burban and Magen Newman, have the most IHSA journalism wins among all Catholic schools.

Nine others from Mother McAuley's Inscape staff also attended the state competition at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill.

The staff received awards in the 2016 Illinois Woman’s Press Association High School Communications Contest this year as well.
