CHICAGO — A man died after his car was struck by a Metra Rock Island District train in Morgan Park Sunday evening, according to police.

The man was driving his car at 7:15 p.m. near where the train crosses 119th Street when he was stopped by railroad gates at the train crossing, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

He attempted to drive around the gates when he was struck by the Metra train, Lemmon said.

The man, whose age was not immediately known, was pronounced dead at the scene, Lemmon said.

A Metra spokesman said the agency did not have any further details on the incident as its police force was still investigating.
