LAKEVIEW—  A hearing officer with the Chicago Public Schools recommended Friday that ousted Blaine Elementary principal Troy LaRaviere be suspended without pay.

LaRaviere faces a dozen charges, ranging from misusing school equipment to engaging in political activity during work hours.

The hearing, which are closed to the public, was held to determine whether LaRaviere can be suspended without pay before CPS moves to terminate him.

"The hearing officer recommended that Mr. LaRaviere be suspended without pay," said Emily Bittner, a CPS spokeswoman.

On Thursday, LaRaviere held a news conference where he criticized CPS and Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

"This administration ... is inherently corrupt, and corruption breeds incompetence," LaRaviere said. "While my fiscal record has been one of enhancements, this administration's record has been one of regression and failure."

LaRaviere has said since he was removed from Blaine last month that he was targeted because of his consistent criticism of the CPS.
