CHICAGO — Riot Fest announced Thursday that the original Misfits will headline the festival this September in Douglas Park, making it the first time Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein have performed together onstage in more than 30 years.

The iconic punk act will reunite to headline both the Chicago and Denver Riot Fest events, with the full festival lineup to be announced soon.

Riot Fest has coaxed notable disbanded acts to reunite previously for the festival, including The Replacements and Naked Raygun.

The Misfits brand of punk and horror imagery has influenced metal and punk music for decades, with seminal tracks like "Halloween" and "Die, Die My Darling." The original lineup disbanded in the early '80s, and had a tumultuous relationship over the years, including a lawsuit in 2014.

Rumors of a reunion have floated around over the years, but band members have squashed the idea in the past. Danzig, the original Misfits vocalist and founding member, was quoted in 2005 as saying "It's the closest thing to a Misfits reunion anyone is ever going to see!" leading up to a special set with Only during his "Blackest of Black" tour.

Riot Fest is Sept. 16-18 in Douglas Park. Tickets are available here
