Saint Xavier Ball Raises $363,810 For Student Scholarships

MOUNT GREENWOOD — Saint Xavier University raised $363,810 for student scholarships at its annual President’s Scholarship Ball.

The school at 3700 W. 103rd St. held the 31st annual fundraiser April 16 at the Hilton Chicago. More than 300 people attended the formal gala benefiting the university with its main campus in Mount Greenwood.

According to a release issued Friday, John and Jane McCarthy were awarded the 2016 Shield of Saint Xavier award at the ball.

John McCarthy is president of Continental Air Transport, Inc., which operates airport shuttle services to O’Hare and Midway airports under the name GO Airport Express. He also served on the university's board of trustees from 1991-2007 and was chairman from 1997-2003.

Jane McCarthy joined the Women's Board of Mercy Hospital in 1984. She currently edits the board's newsletter and also volunteers at the Chicago History Museum.

"We also wish to thank the members of the Saint Xavier community, including trustees, faculty, staff, alumni, benefactors and friends, who generously chose to support our students’ academic careers,” Saint Xavier President Christine M. Wiseman said in a written statement.
