AVONDALE — For fans of Honey Butter Fried Chicken, life just got a little sweeter.

The popular Avondale eatery, 3361 N. Elston Ave., will be open on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. starting May 17.

Originally closed the first two days of the week, extending Honey Butter's hours "gives our customers, our neighbors and friends more opportunities to get some Honey Butter Fried Chicken love," said co-owner and chef Christine Cikowski.

The restaurant is launching a Taco Tuesday special as part of the expansion, offering two fried chicken tacos for $8. Add a can of Tecate for $2 extra, plus a shot of Corazon tequila for another $2.

Brunch will also start an hour earlier on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with extended hours beginning next week.

If the additional trips to the Avondale spot still won't satisfy that Honey Butter craving, customers can take some extra supplies home with them.

In April, the restaurant began selling bags of its fried chicken flour and corn muffin mix. Each $9 bag makes about four servings and is available in the restaurant's retail section.

Honey Butter Fried Chicken opened in 2013 at Elston and Roscoe. Cikowski and her partner Josh Kulp frequently collaborate with other Chicago restaurants and advocate for paid time off in the food industry.

Honey Butter prides itself on serving humanely raised, antibiotic-free chicken and produce from local farms and partnering with community organizations on projects like the Avondale Restaurant Crawl.
