Off-Duty Officer Fires Gun At Robbery Suspects A Block Away From Wrigley

CHICAGO — An off-duty Chicago Police officer fired a gun at people believed to have robbed someone a block north of Wrigley Field shortly after a Cubs home game Tuesday, police said.

The officer was in the 3800 block of North Kenmore Avenue at 10:40 p.m. when he saw what appeared to be an armed robbery, said Officer Ana Pacheco, Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The off-duty officer fired his gun while trying to thwart the robbers, Pacheco said. No one was injured, she added.

Charges are pending against the robbery suspects, said Anthony Guglielmi, police spokesman.

Witnesses told the Tribune that many assumed there was a post-Cubs game fight going on when the officer wrestled a suspect to the ground and a gunshot went off. "It was a full-on fight," one witness said.
