COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A former Uptown resident has been charged with storing and sharing child pornography.

According to prosecutors, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in 2013 began an undercover child pornography investigation that eventually pointed to Michael Thomas, now 37.

Thomas, who lived in the 4000 block of North Kenmore Avenue at the time, kept a pornography stash that included photos and videos of children engaging in sometimes violent sexual acts, prosecutors said during a bond hearing Friday.

Thomas fled the area, and was arrested on a warrant Thursday in Kansas, where he's been working as a hospital technician, court records show.

Thomas is charged with possessing and reproducing child pornography.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered him held in lieu of $2 million bail pending trial. She's also banned Thomas from using the Internet — "period."
