Grand Crossing Shooting Kills 1 Person, Wounds 2, Police Say

CHICAGO — A shooting in Grand Crossing left one person dead and another two people injured, police said.

At 8:10 p.m. Friday, three men were standing outside in the 7600 block of South Maryland Avenue when someone in a passing silver SUV fired shots, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

A 29-year-old man was hit in his abdomen. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified as Terrell Berkhart, of the 9200 block of South Dobson Street, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Berkhart was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m.

A 40-year-old man was hit in his right hand and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where he was in good condition, Sedevic said.

A 26-year-old man was hit in his back and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, Sedevic said.

No one was in custody in the shooting.
