Fugitive Shot And Wounded By Police in West Pullman, Police Say

CHICAGO — Chicago Police shot a man Friday morning after he pulled a gun on them as they were trying to arrest him for robbery and a probation violation in West Pullman, police said.

Police said the department's Fugitive Apprehension Unit was trying to arrest the man at 9:32 a.m. in the 11800 block of South Sangamon Avenue when he ran from the house. As police chased the man, he pulled out a gun and was shot by a police officer in his lower abdomen, police said.

The 21-year-old man was seriously wounded and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said. Police said he was in serious but stable condition.

None of the police officers was hurt, and a gun was recovered from the scene, police said.

The case is being investigated by the Independent Police Review Authority, and the officer who shot the man will be pulled from the street and given administrative duties for 30 days.
